It's better to have a mask with minimal surface area, such as a nasal pillow mask, as it has a lower chance of leaking. That said, the most important considerations when choosing a CPAP mask are the way you breathe and the way you sleep. If you can't reliably breathe through your nose, a full face mask is best. If you're an active sleeper, look for masks with 360° hose swivels or top-of-head hose mounts like the DreamWear mask series.
If your mask doesn't fit, it's possible that you may need a larger or smaller cushion size, or even a different frame size if one is available for your mask. Every mask has a printable sizing guide you can use to measure yourself with, but it's also a good idea to order a Fit Pack when trying a new mask, as it will include all cushion sizes. If the size is fine but you don't like your mask or want to try another, reach out to our customer service team within 30 days of your purchase and we'll exchange your mask at no additional cost!
Each part of your mask ages differently and will need to be replaced at different intervals. Silicone mask cushions for nasal and full face masks should be replaced every 3 to 6 months while memory foam mask cushions and nasal pillows should be replaced monthly. Your headgear should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. The mask frame itself can last from 6 months to a year, but this varies widely between masks because of the different materials used.
When you purchase your machine through insurance, you have much less say in the equipment you receive and will need to prove to your insurance provider that you're using your machine for at least four hours a night to keep it. You'll also pay monthly installments during this period after which you will own your machine.
